Motif Awakening Wish: "I wish to find the meaning, the one that makes all these deaths worth something. I have always trusted in your plan. Please let me finally be part of it and I promise to see it to the end."
- Reverent -> Bleeding Architect (Resonance)
- Mystical -> Luminous Idealist (Flux)
- Charismatic -> Auric Proselytizer -> Voice of the Auric Aria (Crystal)
- "There is always meaning in everything, but only if you are faithful enough will the Voice of the Heavens dictate what is the greater plan behind it all. God is not evil, God is merely crying alongside us with all of our pain."
The Architect Beneath Two Heavens
Selah is the only character in Arcanoria whose soul is so precisely tuned to the same existential frequency that history itself repeats her, not just her name, but her wound. Across both the Old Testament and the New Testament she occupies an identical structural role: a profoundly devout woman standing at the edge of catastrophic mass death, asking the same unanswerable question — Why, and where do I belong? — and then, receiving no satisfying answer, choosing to build one herself.
What changes between timelines is not who she is, nor what she wishes, but only what broke her open. In the Old Testament, it is the generational horror of the Demi-Human wars — burning cities, enslaved communities, the bodies of the faithful stacked alongside the faithless across a continent at war.
In the New Testament, it is the Great Plague — the same indiscriminate death, wearing a different mask. The scale of the tragedy differs. The theology she inherits differs. The god who answers her differs. But the crisis is structurally identical: mass, senseless suffering that the reigning divine order cannot explain or prevent.
In both lives, Selah arrives at the same breaking point by different roads, and makes the same demand of heaven — let my faith mean something at the cost of all this death.
Her Motif Awakening wish is not a prayer to a specific god. It is a prayer about suffering itself. This is why the Motif Awakening Wish holds across timelines even when the god listening changes entirely.
The Old Testament: The Architect of the Auric Codex
In the Old Testament, Selah rises from the devastation of the Demi-Human wars as one of the Auric Aria earliest disciples alongside Mikael, eventually ascending as one of the Seven Archangels of the Auric Aria. She is the one who co-authors the Auric Codex alongside the Auric Aria, formalizing the Theological Virtues, Civic obligations, and magical law of the Auric Order into enforceable divine commandments. In this life, her question — Why do people keep dying? — is answered. The Auric Aria responds, speaks, manifests. Selah's faith is rewarded with structure: a god who confirms there is a plan. Her Reverent and Charismatic traits find their fullest expression here as she translates divine clarity into institutional architecture.
Yet even in the Old Testament, the seeds of her future fracture are present. The Auric Codex she helps build is also the instrument of tyranny that enables the Genocides of the Auric Aria. During the crisis of the twin cities, she stands beside the Auric Aria and against Mikael, the man who was once her spiritual fellow partner and anchor for the Auric Aria, and wounds one of his wings before the resistance flees when the second debate of theology devolves into violence.
Her devotion is real, but it has always been inseparable from her need to make the suffering mean something. She stayed with the Auric Aria because she had already built the god. She could not afford for it to fail.
