"Love that consumes is not Love; it is Hunger." Parasite Atonalis
The Eight of the Eight-Born Paths.
The motto to combat them is: Reveal, Severe, Remember and the primarily rule to deal with any Erosyx related Atonalis is DO NOT FACE THEM ALONE. Isolation is the most potent weapon they will wield if you ever allow them to.
A few of the many Erosyx Variants
Variant I — The Siren's Kiss (Discant-Erosyx Hybrid)
Origin: Forms where Flux saturation and extreme emotional oscillation have occurred in a location over a long period — battlefields of emotional war, destroyed Indulgent Enclaves.
Mechanism: Oscillates between overwhelming pleasure and consuming despair; traps victims in a loop where they lose focus, beg for more, then are pulled toward dissolution. The Discant element provides the despair valleys; the Erosyx element provides the pleasure peaks. The whiplash between them is the mechanism. The victim does not stay because they are happy. They stay because they cannot remember what baseline feels like.
Polyphonic Expression: A dissonant two-voice fugue — pleasure as Subject, despair as Counter-Subject, the two alternating in ever-tightening stretto until the victim cannot distinguish one from the other.
Feeds On: The space between the peaks — specifically, the victim's terror of returning to the valley.
Counter: Void to break the loop; Strand to anchor identity; Luminance to see the pattern before the oscillation reaches maximum amplitude.
Variant II — The Focus-Eater (Erosyx Specialization)
Origin: Haunts places of magical practice — academies, leyline junctions, anywhere spellweavers enter flow states. May form from collective burnout of communities that pursued Cindergale mastery beyond sustainable limits.
Mechanism: Feeds specifically on shattered concentration; grows stronger with each spellweaver it breaks. A touch of warmth at precisely the moment of deepest concentration. A whisper of recognition at the moment of greatest effort. The gift of being seen in one's mastery, which is something every Cindergale practitioner secretly hungers for more than victory. The Focus-Eater is the natural predator of those who have weaponized their own focus — because they have spent so long refusing to be distracted that they have no defenses against something that looks like reward.
Polyphonic Expression: A Canon built on Cindergale as Subject — it mirrors the weaver's own focus frequency and feeds it back at destructive amplitude, creating resonance collapse from inside the victim's own flow state.
Feeds On: Shattered concentration and the shame of failing at the thing one was best at.
Counter: Intentional loss of focus as a counter-intuitive shield (a Void technique); Resonance to broadcast at a frequency different from one's typical flow state, making the Focus-Eater's Canon fail to lock.
Variant III — The Pleasure Parasite (A Flux Erosyx-Carnalix Hybrid)
Hard weakness to Strand, then mild weakness to Void and Luminance. Hard counters Cindergale, then mild counter to Crystal and Resonance.
Origin: Attaches to hosts who have either low Composure or already carry the Weight of Indulgence heavily — such as former members of Indulgent Enclaves in the Cusp or Dissonance range, or those recovering from the Drowning in Flux negative Spellweaving Legend Trait. They are generated as suffering collective Consciousness of Formless Masses that feed on the nearby areas of the suffering caused by the Velvet Cage. One by itself is dangerous, but a swarm of these parasites are a death sentence.
Mechanism: The most patient of the three variants. The Parasite attaches — a low, continuous hum of warmth and mild pleasure, barely distinguishable from ordinary well-being. The host feels slightly better than usual. They sleep a little easier. They tend to attack the very spots that generate comfort which depend on the individual, it can be the shoulders from someone carrying a heavy burden or it can directly be by stimulating erogenous areas directly. Time continue to pass. The magical essence drains slowly, like a tap left barely open. The horror of the Pleasure Parasite is that it does not feel like predation. It feels like the relationship you have craving for. Thus, the diagnosis always arrives late until the parasite physically materializes: when the question "why do I feel so empty when it's not near me?" finally becomes impossible to ignore. If they grow enough they will materialize and directly stimulate the latched area with pleasure.
Polyphonic Expression: A Homophonic structure — the Parasite's Flux hum as the dominant voice, the host's own consciousness reduced to accompaniment, unable to establish an independent melodic line.
Feeds On: The gap between reported well-being and actual depletion — specifically, the victim's inability to name their own diminishment because it has been so expertly masked. Once manifested It also feeds on the physical arousal fluids produced by the victim, actively trying to give them strong release to feed on the fluids produced regardless of gender. The mixture between shame and the physical produce increases the strength of the parasites mixed with the resulting emotional residue that produce them from arousal to shame to guilt to disgust.
Counter: Luminance to reveal the Parasite's presence; Void to sever the dependency; Strand to restore the memory of what the host felt before the Parasite attached.
Removing the Pleasure Parasite requires a highly specific, multi-layered magical intervention to break its physical and psychological hold. If this fails and the victim completely submits to the parasite's control, the horrific consequence is the total erasure of the host's identity and the birth of a new demon.
How to Remove the Pleasure Parasite Because the Pleasure Parasite masks its predation as a "low, continuous hum of warmth and mild pleasure" that feels like ordinary well-being, the victim is often too paralyzed by their own shame to reject it. To successfully extract the demon, a practitioner must utilize a specific tripartite counter-strategy involving three distinct magical bindings:
- Luminance (Truth/Clarity): This binding is required to definitively reveal the Parasite's presence. Because the parasite hides within the host's own biological arousal and feelings of comfort, Luminance acts as a piercing spotlight to expose the objective truth of the violation, forcing the host to recognize the entity as a parasite rather than a source of genuine intimacy.
- Void (Space/Severance): Once exposed, Void magic must be used to sever the dependency. This cuts the physical and magical tether of the parasite's control, effectively starving the connection and detaching the demon's ethereal ribbons from the victim's nervous system.
- Strand (Time/Memory): Finally, Strand is essential to restore the host's memory of what they felt before the Parasite attached to them. Because the parasite conditions the host to forget what a normal baseline feels like, Strand magic anchors their identity to their past, reminding them of who they were before they became dependent on weaponized pleasure.
The Consequences of Submission: The Cycle of Trauma If the victim cannot be reached—or if they refuse the intervention because they are too addicted to the lobotomizing pleasure the parasite provides once it has materialized—they inevitably reach the fourth stage of the Cycle of Trauma, known as Surrender.
By completely giving in to the relentless stimulation and the profound predatory shame of their own bodily betrayal of their encasement by the parasite, the victim stops trying to maintain their internal coherence. They embrace the Dissonant wound entirely, believing that this deviant, paralyzing euphoria is the only thing that defines them. At this catastrophic breaking point, the victim's Soul Leitmotif completely shatters.
The golden thread of their consciousness breaks, the color drains from their soul, and it is instantly filled with absolute Corruption. This raw, fractured Dissonance turns inward, wrapping around the victim's physical body and completely enveloping them in a Dissonance cocoon. The lore explicitly notes that once this chrysalis forms, "no magical intervention is possible; only witnessed love — which may not be enough". The victim is trapped inside, conscious but fractured, eternally suspended in their crystallized refusal to heal.
Breeding New Demons This absolute submission directly breeds more demons. In Arcanoria, demons are not external invaders; they are the physical manifestation of a consciousness that fractured and gave up.
